How to Clean a TCG Playmat: The Best Way to Wash and Remove Stains

Keeping your TCG playmats and mouse pads clean not only makes them look great, but also helps them last longer. Here’s a simple guide on the best ways to clean your mats, whether by hand or machine.

Removing Stains:

Good news, most spills and stains can be removed safely if you act quickly. Here’s how:

  1. Blot the spill right away. Use a clean cloth or paper towel to gently absorb the liquid. Avoid rubbing, which can push the stain deeper.

  2. Mix a small amount of gentle detergent with lukewarm water.

  3. Lightly dab the affected area with a sponge or soft cloth soaked in the solution. Work gently, no scrubbing!

  4. Rinse and dry. Rinse the area with cold water to remove any soap, then lay the mat flat to air dry out of direct sunlight.

Extra tips:

  • Repeat the process for stubborn stains rather than using harsh chemicals

  • Regular, gentle cleaning will help prevent stains from settling and keep your mat looking fresh.

Hand Washing: Recommended for Longevity

Hand washing is the most gentlest way to preserve your mats vibrant colors while mainting durability, this is our preferred and reccomended method of cleaning your mat:

  1. Fill a basin with lukewarm water and add a small amount of gentle detergent.

  2. Let the mat soak until saturated, then gently scrub the surface using a sponge or soft cloth.

  3. Rinse thoroughly with cold water to remove any soap residue.

  4. Allow the mat to air dry, ideally on a flat surface out of direct sunlight.

Machine Washing: For Convenience

If hand washing isn’t practical, you can also machine wash your mat with care:

  1. Use a cold wash only.

  2. Select the most gentl cycle your machine offers and set it to the lowest spin speed.

  3. Add a small amount of gentle detergent.

  4. Allow the mat to air dry, again on a flat surface out of direct sunlight.

Important: Please do not tumble dry your mat, as high heat can damage the materials and printing.

  • Avoid harsh chemicals or bleach, which can fade or damage your mat.

  • Store mats rolled or flat to prevent curling or warping.
